About the Archives at NCBS:
The Archives at NCBS (https://archives.ncbs.res.in) is a public collecting centre for the history of science in contemporary India. It has over 300,000 processed objects across over 50 collections in various forms, ranging from paper-based manuscripts to negatives to photographs, books, fine art, audio recordings, scientific equipment, letters, and field and lab notes. The 2000-square-feet state-of-the-art physical centre at NCBS includes space for research, processing, exhibitions, recording, and a leading-edge storage facility with monitors for temperature, light, humidity, air quality, water, fire, pests, and noise. The holdings include the papers of the molecular biologist and co-founder of NCBS, Obaid Siddiqi, TSG Sastry, a physicist who worked on the Thumba rocket programme, KS Krishnan, the renowned physicist who founded the National Physical Laboratory, Leslie Coleman, an early 20th century agricultural scientist in Mysore state, and the renowned agricultural scientist, MS Swaminathan. Most of the archival catalog is available online (as are many of the digital objects from the collections).

About the job:
The Archives at NCBS is looking to hire an Education Officer who will steer curriculum development using archives, and toward understanding archives. The aim is to lead and inspire pioneering outreach in education using archival records through fostering community, collaborative engagement and inclusive practice while working in partnership with schools and educational organisations.
This role is an exciting opportunity to support the efforts at Archives at NCBS to foster an education and outreach programme focussed on developing teaching-aids and educational material for middle-school and high-school students as well as teachers. They will work with the team to develop educational material using the archival collections at the Archives. They will create online educational resources based on our collections for teachers to use in their classrooms.
They will manage our education-related activities and social media, letting teachers and students know about educational material created from a variety of materials at the Archives. These could be, for instance, from themed collections of digital documents, such as ready-to-use lessons and other material that can be used in class. They will create lesson plans, informative articles, and interactive learning materials.
In this role, you will join the Archives team that coordinates and enables the organisation’s education programme. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, you will strengthen Archives’ relationship with its audience, which includes individual teachers, students, school-authorities, researchers, and other research organisations and funders working in the field of education in India. You will also support the Archives through the design and delivery of teacher-training, events, workshops and other programmes.

Review process: The application form includes provisions for uploading a resume and a statement of intent for the fellowship. A selection committee assembled from within NCBS will shortlist candidates from the applications we receive. A selection committee from within and outside NCBS may then request for references from shortlisted applicants and hold interviews with them to make a final selection. All applicants will be notified of the results.

Essential criteria:

The candidate might hold a graduate degree preferably in education or history from an internationally recognized institution.

Experience of working at an educational institution (preferably schools) as an instructor/administrator/curriculum-creator/teacher-trainer. And/or experience working with education-policy or as part of educational-outreach efforts at organisations.

Excellent written and spoken communication skills (in English and any other Indian language), with experience of websites, social media and/or developing copy for educational material for teachers and students using digital media.

Ability to work with platforms and tools for the delivery of online/on-site events.
