Archival Education Programme for Schools

The Archival Education Programme focussed on school students and teachers at the Archives at NCBS hopes to steer learning using archives, and toward understanding archives. The aim is to lead and inspire pioneering outreach in education using archival records through fostering community, collaborative engagement and inclusive practice while working in partnership with schools and educational organisations. This programme is made possible with generous support from the TNQ Foundation.
We would like to collaborate with school students and teachers to create an education and outreach programme focussed on developing teaching-aids and educational material for middle-school and high-school students as well as teachers. Through the design and delivery of teacher-training, events, workshops and other programme and online educational resources we hope to bridge the gap between archival sources and school education with a focus on history of science in India.
The Archives hopes to strengthen its relationship with its audience, which includes individual teachers, students, school-authorities, researchers, and other research organisations and funders working in the field of education in India.

Summer fellowship for school teachers
Every summer we host a three-week fellowship for three middle-school and high-school teachers.
This is an in person fellowship for three weeks between April and May, on weekdays from 10 AM to 3 PM, at NCBS, Bangalore.
We encourage those interested in researching and using archival records as teaching tools to apply. The teachers will be meeting and working with archivists, historians, researchers, scientists and users of the archive, and may be asked to prepare teaching plans or tools using primary sources and expected to give an informal talk about your experience. A stipend of Rs 10,000 will be included as part of the fellowship; meals and refreshments will also be provided.
Keep a lookout on our social media page for the public call for the fellowship. If you have any questions about the fellowship, contact archives-edu@ncbs.res.in or archives@ncbs.res.in.
Summer fellowship for high school students
Suppose you are a student who likes digging through old letters, photographs, notebooks, diaries, media clippings and audio recordings to look for clues and unearth exciting science stories. In that case, this summer fellowship is for you.
Students get to spend 3 weeks at the Archives at NCBS in the summer (April-May).
They get to discover how science and history intersect and work with archivists and staff to sleuth stories and trivia using the Archive’s resources.
Eligibility: Open for high-school students. Ages 14-18.
This is an in person fellowship for students who will be expected to spend their weekdays between 11 am – 4:00 pm at the Archives at NCBS, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore.
